What is the Panic Button?

The Panic Button is launching Q1 2027. This article describes how it will work based on our current design.

It's 6:47pm. Your event starts at 7:30. Your lead bartender just texted: "I can't make it."

You have 43 minutes.

Without The Panic Button, you spend the next 20 of those minutes calling every bartender you know, updating your timeline, texting your event captain, calling the venue, and hoping something works out.

With The Panic Button, you tap one button and in under 60 seconds:

• The AI rebuilds the bar service timeline for the staffing you actually have
• Every vendor who's affected by the change gets an updated brief automatically
• You get a specific, actionable recovery plan: who to call, what to ask them, what your options are ranked by time
• The client's timeline (if you've shared it) is updated with a version that doesn't show the crisis — just the adjusted schedule

You spend your 43 minutes executing the plan instead of making it.

The four crisis types (at launch)

Vendor cancels — Bartender, chef, photographer, DJ, or rental company calls in same-day. The Panic Button finds backup options from your network and The Bridge, notifies all affected parties, and rebuilds the timeline.

Running late — A vendor or your own team is running 30+ minutes late. The Panic Button recalculates what can shift, what can't, and gives you the minimum viable timeline that still works.

It starts raining — For events with outdoor elements, one tap triggers the weather contingency protocol: venue alert, tent or indoor transition, timeline adjustment, and communication to all parties.

Guest count spike — 20 guests got added at the last minute (it happens). The Panic Button recalculates food quantities, rental requirements, staffing ratios, and the timeline for additional setup.

How it works

1. Open The Middleman on your phone
2. Tap Panic Button
3. Select the crisis type (or describe it in plain text)
4. In under 60 seconds, receive:
   • Updated timeline
   • Vendor notifications sent
   • Backup options ranked by likelihood of success
   • Step-by-step recovery plan

Why it matters

Event professionals don't fail because they're bad at their jobs. They fail because information doesn't move fast enough when something goes wrong.
